Estilsone is a medicine that contains an active ingredient called Prednisolone. It is a corticosteroid that exerts an anti-inflammatory action with an intermediate duration.
As we have said, Prednisolone is a corticosteroid, and corticosteroids are hormones our body produces in the adrenal glands. These substances fulfill fundamental functions in the body; they can also be administered exogenously to treat some conditions.

What is Estilsone indicated for?
Prednisolone, as a component of Estilsona, is widely used in children’s treatments. However, the internal leaflet of the drug indicates that it should only be used when there are critical medical conditions in minors. Among its most significant indications are the following:
- Bronchitis or asthma attacks.
- Laryngitis.
- Atopic dermatitis: when the outbreaks are moderate to severe.
- Allergic conditions.
- Other types of dermatitis or dermatosis.
- Rheumatoid arthritis and other collagen disorders.
- Coagulopathies.
- Psoriasis and pemphigus.
- Multiple inflammatory pathologies.
The duration of treatment with this medication varies depending on the severity of the process and each pathology. In any case, it is advisable to use Estilsona for the shortest time possible, achieving the desired result.
It must be taken into account that this drug takes about 4 hours to exert its effect, so the doses must be spaced at least 8 hours apart. In this way, it is possible to reach the half-life of Prednisolone in the blood that produces the desired effect.

The use of Prednisolone for respiratory diseases in young children in routine
Estilsone comes as a solution in a 10-milliliter bottle. Each milliliter of this medication contains 7 milligrams of Prednisolone. Before taking the corresponding dose, it is advisable to shake the bottle to make the solution homogeneous.
Although the specialist prescribes the treatment with Estilsone depending on each patient and the pathology to be treated, the maximum daily dose is 40 milligrams per day in children. Generally, it is taken twice a day, every 12 hours, and can be mixed with milk or juices to make it easier to handle.
The recommended doses for adults also depend on the pathology to be treated. In this sense, the amounts are as follows:
- Acute bronchial asthma: between 40 and 50 milligrams per day, between 6 and 7.5 milliliters of solution.
- Allergic Reactions: 10 to 20 milligrams a day should be consumed first. Then, a maintenance dose of between 2.5 and 15 milligrams a day should be ingested.
- Rheumatoid arthritis: the recommended dose in these cases is 7 to 10 milligrams.
If you forget to take a dose, do not double the amount to make up for the medication. It would be best if you continued taking Estilsone as you have been doing. Likewise, treatment should not be interrupted abruptly due to the risk of multiple complications.
What side effects does Estilsone have?
When Estilsone is used for less than ten days, the risk of side effects is slight. In general, the most common side effects are increased appetite and restlessness.
Although there are hardly any side effects when the treatment is short, as in the case of bronchitis, laryngitis, or atopic dermatitis, when the treatments are longer, there must be medical control since the side effects that may appear are of greater importance.
Side effects include the following:
- Increased blood glucose levels.
- Fluid retention.
- Appearance of stretch marks or acne.
- Healing problems.
- Weight gain.
- Alteration in menstrual cycles.
- Osteoporosis.
- Gastric ulcers.
- Glaucoma and cataracts.
- Mood swings and worsening psychiatric disorders.
On the other hand, a study published in Jornal de Pediatría (Rio de Janeiro) showed that cumulative doses of Prednisolone affect children’s growth. This condition is seen in children with four or more recurrences of nephrotic syndrome.
When should Prednisolone not be used?
This medication is contraindicated if you are allergic to Prednisolone or any of the excipients in the Estilsone formula. It is also not indicated if you are experiencing a viral disease since Prednisolone can worsen symptoms.
When you have to vaccinate the child, it is better if they are not receiving treatment with Estilsone for two months before giving the vaccine. If the vaccination coincides with the Estilsone treatment, you should consult your pediatrician.
In addition, regarding vaccines and Estilsone, it must be considered that at least two weeks should pass between the vaccination date and the start of treatment with this medication. It is recommended to keep Estilsone away from vaccination times in children.
For its part, Estilsone is also contraindicated in other circumstances, among which the following stand out:
- Presence of gastric or duodenal ulcers.
- Acute or chronic bacterial infections.
- History of psychiatric illness.
- Open or closed angle glaucoma.
- Presence of poliomyelitis.
- Lymphadenopathy after a tuberculosis vaccine.
- Systemic mycoses.
Warnings on the use of Estilsone
Corticosteroids are drugs that can generate multiple effects on all body systems. Therefore, it is essential to keep in mind all the necessary warnings. Specific pathologies, such as hypothyroidism and gastritis, can worsen with the administration of the drug.
People may need higher doses after surgery or trauma, as well as those with myasthenia gravis. In addition, it is recommended to avoid contact with people with chickenpox or measles during treatment.
Estilsone can interfere with the mechanism of action of multiple drugs, especially antibiotics. In this sense, informing the specialist if any medication is being consumed is recommended.
How do I stop taking Estilsone?
Because it is a corticosteroid, it should not be stopped abruptly, especially if you have been using it for long periods. Treatment should not be stopped abruptly because of the possible drop in glucose levels and blood pressure.
A sudden withdrawal of Estilsone can also affect the adrenal glands’ production since the corticosteroid you take orally competes with the hormones produced in the body.
On the other hand, by stopping treatment quickly, the body suddenly suffers a drop in corticosteroids, which can alter all vital signs. For this reason, it is necessary to gradually reduce the doses, giving the body time to adapt to the hormonal changes.
Short-term corticosteroid
Estilsone is a corticosteroid that should be used in short treatments. In this way, it does not imply any severe side effects. Finishing the medicine as prescribed and following the doses recommended by a doctor is the best guarantee of good health.
